Doggie sitting

My parents went away for the week, so I am taking care of their Jack Russell Terrier, Jackie. Aren't they creative with names? We call her Miss Jackie O or the Jackie Monster (like the cookie monster) I usually call her a little monkey. She was so excited when she got here, that she ran around the house in circles chewing on her hamburger squeaky toy the whole time. I have her until Thursday and Penny is less than thrilled. She is ok with her, but she isn't thrilled with someone else getting my attention. When i came home from the gym, I found poop on the floor. I think she was being spiteful. They get along, but I think Penny just puts up with her... We had to put the cat's food on the coffee table, up off the floor, so Jackie wouldn't eat it. She is like a vacuum cleaner...

They were very lucky. They adopted her from their local humane society. I don't believe in buying pure breeds, I believe in rescue agencies and adoption from humane societies. So many of my coworkers have purebred dogs that have problems, whether they are discipline or medical. My principal actaully had a puppy die on him, from a breeder. I can't believe someone gave her up. She is not your typical jack russell. She is fairly laid back, loves to snuggle in your lap and takes long naps during the day. She is good with the cats, although they don't like her. She is so little, like the size of a cat.

Here they are in the yard together...

My parents have a Jack Russell, too (also rescued). When we dogsit her it's a madhouse - she's not at all calm and NEVER naps. She'll play fetch for hours every day, she's insatiable! She wears out my guys within an hour or so and then they're done with her for the rest of the week!

Jackie! Awwwwwww. I totally dig that your parents rescued her. I am also a big believer in adoption of the furry ones...

That is wonderful to see the two of the girls hangin' together. I'm sorry they don't exactly "get along" but that happens. Heidi and/or Mattie pooped in my house one of the first times i left them there alone together. I think both of 'em did it...

If Penny and Jackie hung out more, the jealousy thing would work itself out but because it's not a regular happening, there are issues, which show even in that photo of them. Believe me, i know...

But even tho Mattie and Heidi just kind of tolerate one another and aren't super chummy, i still love to dogsit Heidi...

Extra love from you will be great for Jackie! Penny still knows you love her best, i am sure of that...

Penny will be in crisis mode for a bit but Im sure they will be best of buds in no time. They look so cute together!

I am totally in agreement with you about chosing rescue and humane society animals. It always ticks me off when people start talking about being on 'wait lists' for purebreds. Also kittens only....I mean is that what having a pet is all about??? I dont think so. I worked as education officer for the humane society years ago and the adult animals, dogs and cats had a much harder time to get adopted. I always chose the 'last chance' kitties, and they were treasures in my life. Do these people discard their children when they aren't babies anymore. One more peeve, 'we are moving so had to give them up'....OK, Im done, you hit a nerve..
Thanks for being a responsible pet owner and for sharing this great post.

kody tolerates Betsy too but he gets WAY better over time. Penny's got it made with you and she knows it! she probably does NOT want Jackie to discover the "gold"...

she probably pooped small so you'd think it was jackie... ; )

Doges aren't much different from people, except that we don;t usually poop on the rug. ;)

What cuties.

Well, at least Penny is a good sport about it. And I'm sure she was just sending you a little message. My Kozmo has never gotten over his jealousy when I give Cierdwyn attention. He usually attacks her. They adore each other, but in Kozmo's mind, I'm still HIS. ;) Animals are just like kids.

Awww.. Ms. Jackie O... what a cutie. I am such a terrier fan after adopting my Pit Bull... I totally agree about breeders... I don't understand how people can buy a dog when there are so many homeless.. and if someone is desperate for a fullbreed, then find a rescue! I admit, that after adopting my Pit Bull, I am very fond of the breed and will probably always rescue one... of course, I could care less if they are purebred.. I just love the temperments and the goofiness.. and the fact that so many are put to death because of breed prejudice.

Well, Miss Jackie O! She is certainly a beauty. I'm sure Simon would adore her.
I find that a lot of Jack's aren't as hyper as people are led to believe. When we were thinking about getting a dog, I wanted something smallish this time, (I'd always had big dogs) but I wasn't interested in a fluffly, little, yappy lap dog. Enter the JRT! A big dog in a little body. Some will also say that Jack Russells are yappy, but I've never had a problem with Simon. We talked to a lot of Jack owners and most told us that yes...they have their typical flip-out moments, but they are also the cuddliest, snuggliest softies on the planet. Sometimes Simon's energy is boundless, sometimes he's fearless - he tried to intercept a fight at the dog park between a Doberman and a chocolate Lab, but he's also the biggest suck I've ever seen.
I'm sure Penny doesn't like her routine upset and certainly does not like someone else muscling in on her territory. I'm also sure she'll come around.
As for not very inventive names, my friend's sister used to have 2 Jack Russells named Jack & Jill.
